I thought in memory of September 11th I would post our pictures from visiting the The National September 11th Memorial site in July. The Memorial is a tribute to those people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. It is a beautiful site that was opened to the public last fall, but it is very sobering.
Sarah was almost 6 months old when the attacks took place. I can still remember sitting in our living room with Jason and watching the unbelievable scenes on TV. They are hard to forget. |
The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest man made waterfalls in the North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood.
The names of every person who died in the 2001 and 1993 attacks are inscribed into bronze panels edging the Memorial pools. A father of Sarah's classmate was killed in the attacks and so we were able to look for his name.
This tree is called the "Survivor Tree" and was found in the rubble and replanted at the memorial site.
If you are in New York City and have an opportunity to go to the National 9/11 Memorial we would recommend it. It is beautiful place and honors those whose lives were taken.
